Resumo em lingua estrangeira: | The oral cavity is considered the fourth site most affected by neoplasms. Multilobular osteochondrosarcoma is an uncommon tumor, but preferentially affects the bones 6 of the skull, maxilla and mandible. Thus, several techniques have already been described for resection of tumors involving the bones of the maxilla and hard palate and subsequent correction of defects that cross the midline of the palate. Therefore, the objective of this report is to describe the use of the bilateral caudal maxillectomy technique for the excision of an osteocontrosarcoma in a dog's hard palate. Case: A large female dog, 8 years old, was seen at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Mato Grosso (HOVET-UFMT) with a history of neoformation in the caudal region of the hard palate for about eight months. The patient was referred for blood and imaging tests. Chest radiography and abdominal ultrasound did not show metastases. However, on cranial tomography it was possible to see infiltration in the nasal cavity. The patient was then submitted to bilateral caudal maxillectomy for resection of the neoplasia. Fourteen days after surgery, suture dehiscence and consequent formation of an oronasal fistula was observed, corrected with a local flap of the oral mucosa. Seven days after the correction of the defect, new dehiscence was observed and corrected with the making of a new flap, using the rostral labial mucosa. Nineteen days after the last surgical intervention, the stitches were removed and an adequate healing condition was observed. The histopathological exam diagnosed the neoformation as grade II multilobular osteochondrosarcoma and the patient was then referred to the oncology service. Discussion: Several maxillectomy techniques have been described for resection of neoformations that affect the maxilla and palate in dogs. Multilobular osteochondrosarcoma, although uncommon, has a greater predilection for skull bones such as the maxilla and hard palate. Bilateral caudal maxillectomy is a viable technique that allows ample resection of tumors that cross the hard palate. However, complications such as suture dehiscence and formation of oronasal fistula are expected due to the difficulty of reconstructing lesions in this 7 region. Thus, it is observed that the use of the technique is an effective option to provide better quality of life in the medium and long term to the patient. |
